As an Engineering Lead for Qantas Loyalty, you will be responsible for driving the delivery of high‑performing, secure, and scalable data and cloud solutions that support core Loyalty platforms. You will lead and mentor a team of engineers, fostering a culture of technical excellence, collaboration, and continuous improvement. 

The Engineering Lead will use deep expertise in AWS, Databricks, Airflow, Teradata, and modern CI/CD practices, you will shape the technical direction of the team and oversee the full delivery lifecycle from discovery and planning through to development, deployment, and ongoing optimization.  

The role works closely with product managers, architects, and cross‑functional stakeholders, you will ensure that technical solutions align with business priorities and delivers features that align with business goals.

You’ll have:  

  • 10 + years of overall experience in systems development and implementation. 
  • Experience in leading and mentoring data engineering teams, promoting growth, ownership, and technical excellence. 
  • Communicate technical requirements across business and cross‑functional teams. 
  • Build and improve tooling, automation, and development processes to enhance productivity and delivery consistency. 
  • Strong hands‑on expertise across cloud, web, and data engineering technologies, with proven capability in data governance, data security and data migration. 
  • Strong knowledge of Data Modeling (3NF, Star Schema, Data Vault) 
  • Strong experience in ETL/ELT and SQL scripting, preferably on Teradata (TCF/GCFR, database functions and stored procedures, Teradata utilities, performance tuning) 
  • Strong experience in Airflow and CI/CD tools (GitHub/Jenkins preferred) 
  • Experience in Python (or similar) programming for implementing data engineering frameworks and pipelines 
  • Experience in building pipelines for ingesting streaming, real time or near real time events data. 
  • Lead the team across multiple projects and contribute to migration, ensuring stable, secure, and scalable solutions. 
  • Diagnose and resolve complex technical problems, ensuring system reliability and performance. 
  • Champion modern software engineering practices, coding standards, CI/CD, and quality‑driven delivery. 
  • Develop, deploy, debug, and test high‑quality solutions using established data engineering patterns and architectures. 
  • Balance deep technical capability with strong communication tailored to varied audiences. 
  • Maintain a detail‑oriented, quality‑focused approach with a commitment to continuous improvement. 
  • Provide approachable, collaborative leadership that supports mentoring, coaching, and capability uplift.
