Qantas Direct Entry Trainee Second Officer


As a Second Officer, you'll perform an essential role as part of the Qantas operating crew on our long-haul services. Our Second Officers currently perform critical duties on our A380, A330 and 787-9 aircraft.


Qantas Second Officers are trained at one of the world's most respected and professional flight training establishments - Qantas Flight Training. You'll be able to develop and learn with dedicated staff who are committed to our industry leading safety standards. You'll work with experienced Qantas pilots to develop your operational experience on an active line and have the opportunity to travel the world on some of the most technologically advanced aircraft in the industry.


As a Second Officer, you'll form part of a team dedicated to ensuring the safe operation of the aircraft, delivering premium customer service and upholding Qantas' core professional values.

Welcome to Qantas Freight, Express Freighters Australia (EFA), the freight management company within the Qantas Group. As a wholly owned subsidiary of Qantas, Qantas Freight (EFA) proudly operates in Qantas Freight livery, providing essential aircraft and crew for long-term contracts. Its fleet consists of versatile aircraft, including the A321, A330, and Boeing 737, enabling it to meet the diverse needs of domestic and international freight operations.


In line with its commitment to innovation and expansion, Qantas Freight has enhanced its fleet capabilities with the addition of two converted A330 freighters. These new aircraft significantly increase capacity, with the ability to transport up to 50 tonnes of freight on each flight. Additionally, by the end of 2024, it will have a total of six A321s in the fleet, further enhancing operational capabilities.


As part of the ongoing fleet modernization efforts, it has retired the Boeing 767 and 737 freighters. As it continues to grow and adapt to meet the evolving demands of the freight industry, Qantas Freight remains dedicated to providing efficient, reliable, and cost-effective freight solutions to its valued customers.

Ready to hop into the cockpit with us? Here’s what you can expect throughout our Pilot recruitment journey.

Check criteria

Each Qantas Group airline may have different requirements for each pilot role, so make sure you check the criteria specific to the role you’re applying for.

Upload your CV

We’ll need all your latest information to make an informed decision so make sure you upload an up-to-date cover letter and CV, including your current flight hours, CPL/ATPL, and current aircraft type rating.

Testing

If you meet the criteria we’re looking for, we’ll invite you to participate in online aptitude testing.

Assessment centre

Following the results of the psychometric testing, we may invite you in for an interview and flight simulator test so we can get to know you better and give you the opportunity to demonstrate your experience.

Review

Your candidate profile and assessment results will be presented to the Pilot Leadership for endorsement.

Pre-Employment checks

Before an offer is extended, pre-employment checks will be conducted, including a background check, criminal and security clearances, and a medical examination.
